EDITED 2023** Do I really save money being a seasonal?

by John Tinelli

Is being a seasonal camper really a discount?

So here at Triple R a seasonal site is pretty well discounted. Lets look at the difference in price between a transit and a seasonal.

First when your comparing seasonal sites at campgrounds, here are some questions to ask and things to think about. I will also answer them regarding Triple R as well.

How often does the campground add new amenities? (Triple R is every year).

How often does the campground put in new road surfaces where they are needed? (Triple R coats roads all the time. Every year we add hundreds of tons of stone to our roads to keep them super free from dust).

Is there enough room for parking at my site? If so, for how many vehicles? (At Triple R its usually two).

Does your rig need 50 Amp service, and do they offer it? (Most sites at Triple R are 20/30/50A, but starting in 2021 you have to pick ONE outlet).

Are visitors included in your rate? (At Triple R no. The parents of the site licensees can visit for free every day, but there would be overnight fees for them. All others would pay a visitor fee).

Can I add people to my site?

What’s the difference between a site license and a contract? (This is something you should be well aware of before signing anywhere. They are VERY different documents in the State of NY. At Triple R we use licenses, not agreements or contracts).

Does the campground have a real WIFI system or some rinky dink residential router that only 10 people can get on? (At Triple R we can handle hundreds of devices at a time).

Do they permit golf cats? Electric or gas? You need to know up front. No campground will change their mind on this, no matter how hard you beg. (Triple R is electric golf carts only. We must have a copy of the insurance card. No Gem cars, or even electric side by sides).

How many people does the site include? (Triple R is a family of 5. Two adults and their 3 children 21, unmarried and under living at home. Anyone beyond that is extra).

How many people am I allowed to have on my site at one time? At Triple R its 8.

Can someone else use my camper when Im not there? If so can they do it on a holiday weekend? (Triple R is No and No).

Is cable included with the site? (Triple R includes cable at every site).

Is sewer on the site? (Triple R it is full sewer at every site).

Can I put sewage down the sewer or is it only gray water? (See above).

If the campground doesn’t have a sewer at your site, how much will it cost you to be pumped out and when will they do it?

How long is the season? When does it start and end? (At Triple R it is mid April to Columbus Day).

Do I have to mow my site or does the campground? (At Triple R we mow everything).

Do I have to trim or do any kind of lawn work? (At Triple R you trim at least every other week).

Can I store my camper on the site for the winter? If so, how much does it cost? (At Triple R yes, $125 for the winter).

Can I have a shed? If so, what are the restrictions? Does it have to be a Rubbermaid, etc? (At Triple R we do have a restriction on shed size. We don't want your whole garage here).

Can I build a deck? (At Triple R you can build a deck, but we do have size restrictions, and construction requirements. As our staff for more details. We do not need town approval to do so).

Is the campground corporately owned, or is it private where the owner is on site? (Triple R is owned and operated by a military family that lives right on site).

What are the quiet hours? Does anyone enforce them? Is there security? (At Triple R we run security to ensure our 10PM to 8AM quiet time is adhered to, all the time).

Is the campground gated? Or can just anyone drive in? (Triple R is gated. Once a seasonal, you would get a gate card that gives you 24 hour access).

Is there an age restriction on camping units coming in as seasonals or residents? (At Triple R we don't take in any camping units older than 10 years old).

Does your campground offer Resident rates? Or can I live here for the same price that someone else pays to be here as a seasonal on the weekends? (At Triple R, we do charge extra for those that want to live here. Why? A seasonal is here for 2 or three day weekends, with an occasional week or two vacation a couple times a season. Someone that lives here uses more roads, power, water, chlorination systems, sewer pump systems, gates systems, 7 times the dumpster usage, etc. Hence we do charge extra for the usage of all those and more).

What does the park offer for my family? (At Triple R we offer gem mining, laser tag, shuffle board, basket ball, volley ball, horse shoes, bubble soccer, tether ball, 2 playgrounds, pool heated to 80, spa heated to 100, spray pad heated to 80, 24 hour laundry, rec hall, activities hall, live music every other weekend alternating with a DJ, themed weekends, planned activities, camp store, golf cart rentals, hay rides, gaga ball, stocked fishing pond, fireworks and more).

If you are a medical marijuana user, what is the campgrounds policy on it? (See our policies page ad the blog we wrote about it showing you NYS law).

What is the campground policy on firearms? (See our polices page).

Are there credit card fees for being a seasonal or  resident customer? (At Triple R all licenses are based and listed as cash prices).

Is there a waiting list to get in? (At Triple R there are presently over 100 people on the waiting list. The larger the camper, the longer the wait).

Hopefully those are some questions to help you find the right fit. But now back to the math.

At Triple R, to be a seasonal, the 2023 price starts at $3400 plus electric. That equates to around $19.43 a day to occupy the site. To keep this simple, if you were to occupy a grass and gravel transit site the entire season at Triple R you would pay $13,574 plus electric. That's if you did not pay the extra amount for the 50 Amp at $5 per day.

If you ONLY stayed on weekends you would have to haul your camper back and forth. At $100 a trip for fuel, which would be about $2600 plus the $4004 in weekends, you would spend $6604 to be here every weekend as a weekend transit camper only.

So to sum it up, to leave your camper on site for the season, you save thousands. Either way.

The nearest competitor that has our amenities starts around $6700 for a seasonal site.

How do you become a seasonal or Resident at Triple R? On our website pick the seasonal button, then pick the "seasonal site request form" button to apply. This information allows us to see what size camper you have, how many air conditioners, the age of the rig, how many people etc. If your camping units physically fits somewhere in the park, we will let you know. Before submitting the application, please also read the seasonal rules and policies on that very same page. We don't change these policies at request, we add to them as needed. Please make sure you are ok with them prior to filling out the application.

We hope you have found this helpful. These are the most commonly asked questions we get when people inquire about seasonal sites. It also shows you the savings you can get by being seasonals or resident at Triple R.
