Camping with a water park.
The best camping in Western NY is at a campground with a water park. However, there are different kinds of waterparks. The word waterpark is somewhat vague. So what are the different types of water parks and why are they called different things?
Campground Spray Pads vs Spray Parks
At Triple R we have a spray pad. A spray pad has no water underneath the features. Its typically a dry deck with no standing water under it. This is the safest form of a water park as the risk of drowning is pretty low with no standing water around. This is the best type of water park for people with kids 2 to 12 years old.
Other campgrounds have water under their spray features. Often referred to as a spray park. The risk with this is supervision. Commonly there is 8 inches of water under the spray features and water slides. If a young child is left un-attended, there is considerable risk of drowning.
Campground Water Parks - Smaller but Just as Fun!
Larger water parks have full fledged slides and aquatics features that may be interactive. Much more like something you would find at Darien Lake Six Flags. This is where deep water such as lazy rivers, pools with features in them are present. Of course this is a favorite of everyone. While campground water parks may be smaller, they can be just as much fun!
Water Park Requirements
In all cases there are New York State requirements for spray parks of any kind. Some are what kind of diapers kids that are not potty-trained need. In some cases like on a spray pad the diaper itself is not adequate. A cover for the diaper is actually New York State Law.
